Thank you for your support!
Thanks for 25 years of BetterRide MTB Skills Coaching. It’s hard to believe I started BetterRide 25 years ago this month!
Thank you to my students; you have been the best teachers. Over those years, I’ve learned and grown remarkably.
When you asked, ” Do you mean this…?” and phrased it better than I did, you helped me so much; even the drills I teach have been improved by your input.
Working with Greg Minnaar
Thank you, Greg Minnaar; our students were stoked when you assisted me in eight downhill courses. The students and I learned so much working with you.
My older students rock!
A big thanks to my older students. What an inspiration you have been. I’ve been fortunate enough to see the wry smile on the face of a 64-year-old woman doing a wheelie for the first time. I watched a 67-year-old rider go up the big rock on Prime Cut and ran into him three years later. He was excited because he had just done it again.
I couldn’t believe 78-year-old Fred Schmidt’s tenacity when he took my course. Two years later, he finished the Leadville 100 in under 12 hours!
Racers on the podium
Thank you to all my gravity-racing students. Seeing the excitement of 17-year-old Mitch Ropelato’s second-place finish in a World Cup 4x was awesome.
I watched BetterRide student and coach Jackie Harmony struggle at three World Cups in Europe. Then, a few weeks later, I received a phone call from an excited Jackie, who had just won the National Downhill title!
During the Enduro World Series at Northstar, I was glued to the live timing coverage as students Mitch, Cody Kelley, McKay Vezina, and Shawn Neer were all in the top 10 until the last stage. Mitch ended up 3rd, Cody 7th, Mckay 10th and Shawn 11th. I felt like a proud dad!
Assistant coach
Speaking of US National Enduro Champion Cody Kelley, he is now assisting me in my Downhill/Enduro courses. Thanks for giving back, Cody!
The amount of success my students have had is staggering. I’m so proud of them. From getting fitter and riding more, to World Cup Podiums, National Championships in Downhill, Enduro, Dual Slalom, 4X, Short Track, King of Crankworx, and World Masters Championships in Downhill and Cross Country.
BetteRide in the media
To be featured in the New York Times and on the Discovery channel, was a special experience.
Change is good
I am excited to start offering 2-Day courses for those who have work time restrictions. You can read more about my 2-Day Core Skills 1 courses HERE.
It has been a pleasure serving you, and it’s been quite the journey. Thank you. I look forward to many more years of helping you ride your best!
Cheers,
Gene
Congrats on 25 years! Thank you for helping so many riders to up their game!
Thanks, Edward!
Congratulations Gene! Twenty five years is quite an accomplishment.
I took your course recently and all l can say is that l wish l had taken it twenty years ago!
Instituting two-day courses should bring many new riders into a higher level of riding, which is quite good, as that will raise the overall riding ability seen on the trails – good for safety and everyone’s enjoyment.
So keep up the good work my friend!

Thanks, Bill. Better late than never! Glad to be of help!
Cheers,
Gene
Congrats on twenty five years of improving other people’s riding experience. Took your course the first year I began mountain biking and it totally changed my outlook. Instead of worrying what I might encounter on the trail, I began to look forward to what the trail had to offer.
Thanks, Hap. Great to hear you are looking forward to what the trail has to offer instead of worrying about it! That sounds much more fun!
Cheers,
Gene
