My Students Rock! This is why I travel and coach all over the US.
What a week! The three things that stoke me the most about my job are coaching new students, catching up and riding with former students, and hearing of former students reaching/exceeding their goals. Last week I got to do all three.
On Wednesday I got an email from Missy, her daughter Aisley was racing at Big Sky and Missy was pushing her own limits and seeing big improvement.
Our mountain biking season has been such fun and I know it stems from taking your class. Thank you for everything and I can’t wait to attend another class of yours in spring of 2022!!!
– Missy, Aisley’s mom
Look at the form! Aisley is 12 and already ripping.
On Thursday, in the liftline at Winter Park, I ran into two of the fastest racers that I have had the pleasure of coaching. Then I got to chase them down the second stage of the National Championship enduro track.
That was so fun, they are so fast! I was able to keep up for about half the track then they were gone. Thanks, Cody and Mitch.
On Friday I started one of my three-day skills courses with these awesome women.
So I spent three days doing what I love, coaching my students to ride in balance and in control, wheelie without using any upper body strength, manual, corner like World Champions, and simply have more fun and less fear on their bikes.
On Saturday, I got the coolest email from a 77-year-old who took a course from me nearly twenty years ago.
I took your course in San Diego way back when I was mid 60’s. I am now 77 and still riding. I just won the F 75-79 Masters XC National Championship in Winter Park. Your course was the most valuable help I had ever received in improving my mtn biking. I appreciate the emails you send out on improving riding. I try to do what you suggest.

Also on Saturday, Cody Won the National Championship, Mitch was right behind Cody in second and BetterRide alum Blair Reed, the world’s fastest electrician earned 10th place.
Dustin Dahl has been working on his skills and training hard and he earned a tightly fought 3rd place in the 30-39 Enduro Class.
Also on Saturday, Kialani Hines won the Dual Slalom National Championships. So cool to see her racing all over the world and coming home to the US to win her first National Championship (first of many I get the feeling).
On Sunday, my former student and former bike sponsor when I rode for Canfield Brothers Bikes, Chris Canfield won his second National Downhill Championship. Congratulations Chris!
Then while on Facebook I saw that Dylan Conte was second in an Eastern States Cup downhill race and is coaching the Stowe Mountain Bike Academy Team. Great to see him racing so well and coaching some up-and-coming rippers.
I don’t think I could be more grateful for such a rewarding career.
I’ve got more skills articles and some product reviews coming soon. Until then, get out and ride!
Cheers
Gene
