1 and 2 Day Mini-Camps:
You can sign up for just Day 1, or both days. Sorry, but since Day 2 builds on Day 1, you can’t take just Day 2 unless you have already completed Day 1, or take the first two clinics in our Core Skills series (see below).
Each day will start with 3-4 hours of skills instruction and drills (in a local park) followed by 2-3 hours of on trail practice and riding on trail. This is an Approximate outline of the Camp (order, schedule, and topics may vary at coaches’ discretion)
Day 1
* Quick overview of camp
* How to ride in Balance, in Control and efficiently. Learn correct body position (as opposed to the common and incorrect “myths” passed down from rider to rider), balance and weight placement for climbing and descending
* How to set-up your bike for optimal riding: tire pressure, tire type, stem length, bar height, seat height, brake level reach/adjustment, suspension set up to riders weight and riding style
* How to look ahead correctly- Everyone one knows to look ahead but few actually do it! I will teach you where and how to look ahead, how this effects your riding and how to improve your vision skills.
* How to wheelie over small obstacles, up and down, two efficient wheelies relying on technique, not upper body strength and how to use them over different obstacles
* How to fall safer
* Break for lunch and hit the trails to work on morning skills
* Wrap up and reveiw of the days skills
Day 2
* Review of day 1, questions?
* How bikes corner, how to corner in balance, using vision to corner faster, easier with more control
* Advanced cornering with drills
* How to brake effectively (no skidding!), how to use your brakes to go faster
* How to start/restart on an uphill
* Break for lunch and hit the trails to work on morning skills
* Wrap up and review
2-Hour Core Skills Clinics:
These 2 hour clinics focus on one or two core skills and how to master them with drills. You must take the first two in that order as all the skills we teach depend on you having proper body position, bike set up and understanding of proper vision techniques. BetterRide clinics are “skills clinics” not fitness or training clinics. You will get some exercise but not a huge workout so schedule your riding/training accordingly. I encourage (as part of the clinic) that after we wrap up each day you go for a 20-40 minute ride at your own pace to practice what we have learned.
The Core Skills 1 Clinic covers:
1. Quick overview of the clinic and keys to learning physical skills
2. Body position, balance and weight placement, climbing and descending like a pro, with Drills,
3. Bike set-up, tire pressure, tire type, stem length, bar height, seat height, brake level reach/adjustment, suspension set up to riders weight and riding style
The Core Skills 2 Clinic covers:
1. Vision, where and how to look, how this effects your riding and how to improve your vision, most people know to look ahead but don’t know where and how to look so they end up looking down (go for a ride and note how often you are looking less than 10 feet in front of you), I explain how this effects your riding and how to improve your vision, followed by drills
The Core Skills 3 Clinic covers:
1. Wheelies!, how to do wheelies efficiently and correctly, not relying on upper body strength, how to clear small obstacles smoothly, up and down
2. braking, how to brake to go faster
The Core Skills 4 Clinic covers:
1. How to corner in balance and rail corners like a pro with drills, body position, balance
2. Riding wet roots and off-camber trails
The Core Skills 5 Clinic covers:
1. slow speed balance, how to improve this important skills
2. switch backs up and down, using the BetterRide 100% technique not the popular momentum technique that only works well with good traction and no obstacles
3. larger obstacle skills, rear wheel lift, logs, drop offs
